What is the difference between Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)?
Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) is a security solution that monitors endpoint devices, like laptops and servers for suspicious activity, enabling automated threat detection and response. However, it typically requires in-house security teams to manage alerts and take action.

What is the difference between Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and Security Operation Center (SOC) service?
Managed Detection and Response (MDR) builds upon the foundation of Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), which focuses solely on monitoring and responding to threats at the endpoint level, such as laptops, desktops, and servers. EDR tools detect suspicious behaviours on these devices and generate alerts when anomalies are found. MDR enhances this by adding a layer of 24/7 monitoring and expert analysis, where security analysts review and respond to EDR alerts, providing faster and more accurate threat mitigation.
Blazon Security Operations Centre (SOC) service goes even further. While MDR is primarily focused on endpoint data, our SOC aggregates and analyses logs from multiple sources across the entire IT environment, including endpoints, servers, network traffic, cloud infrastructure, and more. This broader visibility enables correlation of alerts, logs, and behavioural patterns to uncover sophisticated threats that EDR or MDR alone might miss. Additionally, our SOC supports compliance requirements by storing and managing log data in accordance with regulatory standards.
Unlike MDR, which is typically a technical service focused on detection and response, our SOC also provides strategic value. Do Blazon provide Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)?
Blazon does not provide Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) as a standalone offering.
Our experience has shown that EDR often introduces more complexity than value for many organisations. Users typically lack the security expertise required to interpret alerts or take appropriate action, and most do not have a dedicated security team to manage, fine-tune, and respond to the system’s output. As a result, EDR frequently devolves into a glorified antivirus, generating excessive alerts that lead to fatigue, desensitisation, and ultimately, the dismissal of notifications that may require urgent attention.
We have seen firsthand how this alert overload can erode trust in the system and reduce its effectiveness. Without proper context and response capabilities, EDR becomes a reactive tool rather than a proactive defence.
For these reasons, Blazon does not believe in the value of providing EDR in isolation.
Instead, we focus on delivering comprehensive Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services, combining expert-led threat monitoring, contextual analysis, and actionable response.
